Richard, I had a bizarre idea on the way back to california; it
goes as follows:

1.Carlson and company want to tranfer lispish research to dod-1ish
  products.

2. He is now pursuing the idea of making dod-1 look like ECL outside,
which we all know is secretly lisp inside.

3. You have this fine high quality lisp machine, and we all know that lisp
is the most excellent vehicle for language design.

4. You are anxious to get as many arpa-ites to use your machine as possible.

Therefore is occurred to me that if you could coerce a few MIT undergrads
(supplied with their brand of stimulant) to spend a few weeks inplementing
a dod-1 language environment on your lisp machine then you could finesse the
world. It would show the doubters the power of lisp as well as establish
your machine in both the development and production cycle of arpa software.
what do you think??
